Dr. Raymond Gilpin Joins ACSS as Dean of Academic Affairs | Africa ...

Dr.Gilpin ACSS DEANWashington, D.C.?The Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) welcomed Dr. Raymond Gilpin as the new Dean of Academic Affairs on March 11, 2013.

?It is my distinct pleasure to welcome Dr. Raymond Gilpin as Dean of Academics for the Africa Center,? said Mr. Michael Garrison, Acting Director of ACSS.? ?Dr. Gilpin brings extensive academic leadership and management experience to the Center.? He is a recognized expert on U.S. ?Africa policy who has developed exceptional relationships working across U.S. government agencies. He also has a tremendous background and exceptional demonstrated performance working critical inter-disciplinary African security issues.? He will bring new ideas to the center and be a calm collaborative leader, which will help position the Center to support U.S. security policy objectives for years to come.?

Prior to joining ACSS, Dr. Gilpin served as director of the Center for Sustainable Economies (CSE) at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). In this capacity, he led USIP?s analysis of the relationships among economic actors throughout the various stages of conflict and crises.

Dr. Gilpin also has a longstanding relationship with ACSS. Before joining USIP, Dr. Gilpin served as the Africa Center?s Academic Chair in Defense Economics. ?He also remained engaged with ACSS during his tenure at USIP, serving as a guest lecturer for numerous academic programs.

In addition to his work on African security issues, Dr. Gilpin has extensive experience in the private and financial sectors, having previously served as director for International Programs at Intellibridge Corporation (now part of Eurasia Group), senior economist at the African Development Bank Group, research director at the Central Bank of Sierra Leone, and an economist at the World Bank.? Dr. Gilpin holds a doctorate from Cambridge University in Economics and an Executive Certificate in international finance and capital markets from Georgetown University.
