International Development - Business Development Manager

Introduction
Save the Children has set out an exciting 10-year ambition to inspire dramatic change for children, and a clear 3-year strategic plan designed to position us to achieve this.

In order to continue to grow our institutional and trust income, we have created a new Programmes Partnership Team in Global Programmes.

The Programme Partnerships Department develops strong relationships and powerful propositions to support all our fundraising teams to engage donors in our work. We maintain, analyse and share data on the income streams we manage. We work closely with country teams to identify, grow and manage our partnerships with institutional donors and trusts. By building strong relationships with donors, and supporting the production of high-quality proposals, we ensure that:
? Save the Children teams have maximum funding to meet the needs of the most vulnerable children and their families in the countries where they work
? Donors see Save the Children UK as a respected and reliable partner
? Save the Children members trust us to manage key donor accounts on their behalf?

Job purpose
East & Southern Africa remains a critical region in terms of achieving Save the Children UK?s global objectives, both in terms of the number of children to be reached, and in terms of the potential income to be raised. As country programmes in the region begin to transition and become managed by Save the Children International (SCI), Save the Children UK is modifying its new business and grant oversight procedures. Many critical functions, currently carried out at country office level, such as proposal development and report submission are returning to head office. At the same time, many of Save the Children UK?s key donors in the region (such as DfID, ECHO, and UNICEF) remain highly decentralized themselves, and maintain significant offices in key capitals within the region. Therefore it is critical that we continue to maintain some specialist dedicated Save the Children UK donor management capability within the region.

In order for Save the Children UK to be able to have the best possible donor relationships and maximize all available funding opportunities in the region, we are recruiting a Business Development Manager (BDM), to be based in East Africa. The BDM will be our principal representative for our donors at the regional level, as well as acting as a focal point for new business development between Save the Children UK and country programmes in East Africa.

The BDM will work with country programmes to identify donor opportunities; facilitate donor engagement at country and regional levels; assist in the development of country fundraising strategies for UK donors; and coordinate proposal development for large and strategic funding opportunities. The role is intended to strengthen the capacities of country programmes to raise restricted funding primarily from institutional donors.

Recognising that many conversations with in-country donors involve a review or update around current grants as well as discussions about new opportunities, the BDM will also be expected to keep closely informed about the progress of all major institutional grants in the East Africa sub- region, although formal grant management responsibility remains with country programmes until transition to SCI when it transfers to the Africa Desk in Farringdon.

The Business Development Manager will be located in Nairobi, Kenya. The role works closely with Country Programme teams (Country Directors, Programme Directors, and Finance Directors), the East & Southern Africa Regional Office, and the Programme Partnerships team based in London. The role has an external orientation and requires engagement with donors and other members of Save the Children who provide programme funding. The position requires regular travel to countries in the region.
